Anti-corruption association network braced for action
Morocco, Politics, 1/7/2000

The Moroccan anti-corruption association network said Thursday it is braced for further independent action to sensitize, come up with and enforce proposals in fighting corruption.

In a press-conference on "For further genuine transparency" celebrating the 4th national day against corruption, network members said their action will be useless unless it combines with efforts by the government, parliament, justice and other institutions. They deemed action so far by the government to be very limited and called for adequate measures through strict enforcement of the law and a nationwide debate via the media on this major obstacle to development.

In 1998, the network handed the prime minister a memo asking for clear-cut government stands on major corruption dossiers, the setting up of an independent body to fight the plague and reforms in the legal, regulatory and judiciary systems.
