AL for full Israeli withdrawal from the Golan
Regional, Politics, 1/7/2000
Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid has called for Israel's complete withdrawal from the Golan.
In statements he made on Thursday in Cairo to reporters, the AL chief stressed the Arab states' backing for Syria's stand in its quest for the restoration of all occupied Arab lands in order to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
The AL chief asserted the importance of a continuous US role in order to play the role of a complete partner in the Middle East peace process, according to the land-for-peace formula.
He added that Israel's implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 242, 338 and 425 is the basic point for realization of a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
Abdul Meguid stated that the Arab foreign ministers' council will discuss in its next session, due to be held in March in Cairo, basic issues of concern to the Arab states, mainly developments pertaining to the Middle East peace process on all tracks and the Israeli occupation of the Golan, south Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.
