Jordanian Muslim Brothers deny split
Jordan, Politics, 1/7/2000

The official spokesman for the Muslim Brothers group in Jordan, Jamil Abu Baker, has denied news that there is a group that has split from his group to establish a new party bearing the name of the Muslim Brothers Party.

In a telephone call with the London-based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily on Wednesday, Abu Baker added that there is another group which bears the same name, according to Jordanian law, and therefore it is not permitted to have two parties or groups carrying the same name.

Yet, Abu Baker warned that his group will resort to the law if an official license is issued for the establishment of a group under the name "Muslim Brothers."

Abu Baker, on the other hand, explained that his group made wide strides in eradicating traces of adverse developments resulted from the crisis took place between the Jordanian government and the Hamas movements.
