French company wins contract to establish Tunisian airport

A statement issued by the Tunisian civil aviation sector assured that 'the French company Airport De Paris won a contract worth $9.6 million to make a study concerning establishing an airport in El-Nafida city located 100 kilometers south of Tunis.

The statement also said the cost of establishing the airport is estimated at nearly 300 million dinars and that it will be activated in June 2004 to receive 5 million passengers annually in the first stage to be increased to 30 million passengers later on.

It asserted the importance of establishing the new airport because Carthage's airport and Minister airport will be at their full capacity soon, saying that the new airport will serve the tourism establishments in the El-Hammamat and Sousse areas.
