Clinton relays to President Lahoud optimism on peace talks

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud received a message on Wednesday from US President Bill Clinton. The message was conveyed by the US ambassador to Lebanon, David Satterfield.
In his message, the US president asserted the importance of the talks currently being held between Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, under the direct supervision of the US.
The message asserted that resuming direct contacts between Syria and Israel makes him "optimistic" over the chances of achieving progress on the Lebanese track.
President Clinton asserted that he is confident that the coming this year will bring in comprehensive peace, prosperity and stability to the whole Middle East.
