Senator Shelby commends meeting with Mubarak

Head of the US Congress Intelligence Committee, Richard Shelby said his meeting with President Hosni Mubarak yesterday was fruitful and interesting.

The talks covered bilateral relations, the Middle East peace process and economic cooperation, said Shelby, noting that it is the third time to meet with Mubarak.

The US is looking forward to Mubarak's visits who is always warmly received in Washington, said Shelby, adding that his tour in the region includes a number of African states.

Senator Richard Bryan, a member of the delegation accompanying Shelby, said this is his second meeting with President Mubarak, recalling that their first meeting was in 1990 after the Gulf War . "Mubarak is one of the personalities who are highly respected by the American people. He has a principal and effective role in the peace process," said Brian.

He added that the importance of strong bilateral relations between the US and Egypt is the axis of the two countries' interest and also the main parties in the US, i.e., the Democratic and the Republican, said Bryan, remarking that he, a democrat and his colleague Shelby, a Republican believe in this necessity.
