Sheikh Zayed distribute lands, pardons 211 prisoners

United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan has given his instructions to distribute arable lands and houses to the citizens of the UAE in the cities of Abu Dhabi and al-Ein and to release 211 prisoners.

The chairman of the UAE president's office, Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed al-Nahyan, said the distribution of lands and houses comes in the context of the care shown by Sheikh Zayed to ensure stability and prosperity for the citizens of the UAE.

Sheikh Mansour said that this issue includes the distribution of 661 farms, 673 houses and 83 pieces of land where a house can be built.

He added that total number of distributed arable lands in Abu Dhabi in 1999 was 2,335, 794 houses and 230 pieces of land on which houses were built, given to 4,359 citizens.

On the other hand, Sheikh Zayed also gave his instructions to release 211 prisoners who were sentenced to criminal cases as well as to pay their debts estimated at 12,733,561 UAE dirhams. This measure is a tradition often practiced by Sheikh Zayed on Eid al-Fitr.
