Disorder ends in Egyptian village of Al-Kusheh
Egypt, Local, 1/4/2000
Calm prevailed yesterday evening and this morning in Al-Kusheh village after the recent violent events, due to which 20 persons were killed and 36 were injured.
A statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced the cancelation of the curfew imposed on the village and the opening of roads for entry and exit from Dar El-Salam and its surrounding villages.
"Eleven of the wounded checked out of hospital after having received treatment," said the statement.
It attributed the increase in the number of deaths to the fact that the families had taken the wounded to their homes without informing authorities.
"Some of the bodies of the dead were found inside plantations. they died out of the wounds they had sustained," said the statement. A total of 33 stores were damaged and two cars burned, it added
The statement said that a committee of Christian and Moslem men of religion will be formed to make a reconciliation between the Moslems and Christians in this village.
The Egyptian high state's security started investigations under the asuspices of Hesham Saraya, the general lawyer for state security, as charges of making disorders, damaging public property, resisting the authorities, robbery and carrying weapons without a license were addressed to 150 suspects in Al-Kusheh and its neighboring vilages.
