Citrus fruit association worried by EU tomato restrictions
Morocco-European Union, Agriculture, 1/4/2000
The Moroccan citrus fruit association, ASPAM, voiced concern over the European Union decision to require import certificates for Moroccan tomatoes as of Jan. 1st of this year, says a press-release.
The move, said ASPAM, is in blatant contradiction with provisions of the Moroccan-EU agreement which provides for preferential treatment for up to 150,000 tons of Moroccan tomatoes up between Oct. 1 and March 31.
Beyond that time-limit, the kingdom could carry on exports at GATT prices, said the association, insisting that if EU's interpretation says otherwise, exports of other Moroccan agriculture products are in serious danger.
