Regional, Religion, 1/4/2000

In Syria, like other Arab and Islamic countries the Night of Power (Lilat al-Qader) was observed on Monday evening. This day was observed in Damascus at al-Othman Mosque under the celebration was held under the patronage of the president on the 27th night of the holy month of Ramadan.

Among the several sublime indications of the holy month of Ramadan, is the Night of Power, on which the holy Koran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad.

Stressing the great significance of this night, Allah who created the heavens and the earth and that which is between them in six days, then He mounted the Throne says in the al-Qader (power) Surah: "We revealed it on the Night of al-Qader, Ah, what will convey into thee what the night of Power is. The night of power is better than a thousand months. The angels and the spirit descend therein by the permission of their lord, with all decrees (that night is) peace until the rising of dawn."
