King Mohammed VI appoints new senior officials at interior department
Morocco, Politics, 1/3/2000
King Mohammed VI on Friday appointed more than 30 new walis (super-governors) of prefectures and provinces and senior officials at the central administration of the interior department.
The Moroccan public TV and radio reported that almost half of the walis and governors were replaced, including those of Casablanca (Morocco's financial center), Laayoune and Boujdour (southern Morocco).
The new appointments take place less than two months after the appointment of a new interior minister, Ahmed Midaoui, in replacement of Driss Basri.
The king also appointed new officials at several other key positions at the Interior Ministry, including the secretariat general and the general inspection.
The new movement is seen as part of King Mohammed VI's will to establish a new concept of authority and local affairs management, to which he called in one of his previous speeches.
