Qatari reconciliation mission between El-Bashir and Turabi ends with no result

Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jaber al-Thani came back to Doha yesterday after a 20-hour visit to Sudan without achieving his mission of reconciling between Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir and Hasan Turabi, the discharged head of the parliament.

The Qatari minister expected relief soon in the crisis, saying in statements in Doha yesterday evening after his return from Khartoum that the talks he held with El-Bashir and Turabi were frank and obvious and that the crisis between the two men will witness a relief during the coming days.

Turabi had met on December 31, 1999 with the ruler of Qatar in Doha.

Official sources in the Sudanese republic's chairmanship said the visit had not achieved its goals as El-Bashir assured the Qatari minister that there would be no retreat in the last corrective decisions.
