Confrontation in Mogadishu
Somalia, Politics, 1/3/2000

At least eight persons were killed and another ten wounded on Saturday evening in two separate confrontations between armed groups in Mogadishu.

AFP said that five persons were killed and eight wounded when unidentified persons opened fire on the coach which was carrying them in Galgalato quarter in the northern part of the city.

Members of the militias who are in charge of security affairs stated that the matter might have connected to revenge acts, as the attackers and the victims belong to two different groups though they come from Abqal tribe which controls the northern part of Mogadishu.

Meanwhile, three persons were killed and two wounded in the southern part of the capital when a hand grenade dropped by unidentified persons on a house in Holo Adagh went off.

Eyewitnesses said that one of the attackers was killed in the explosion during the celebration of the new year.
