Barak: Peace means complete normalization with Syria and Lebanon
Syria-Israel, Politics, 1/3/2000

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak on Sunday expressed his conviction that the agreement with Syria will win the backing of the majority of the Israelis in the referendum to be held.

Before he headed to the US where today in Shepherdstown, West Virginia a second round of negotiations with Syria will start, Barak stressed that Israel will not sign a peace agreement unless it means a complete normalization with Syria and Lebanon and not to be a mere agreement on not attacking each other.

Barak stated that the agreement should include security arrangements, guaranteeing water sources, making the Golan a zone free from weapons and deploying the Syrian army tens of kilometers apart from the borders with Israel.
