Israel-Bangladesh, Politics, 1/3/2000
The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot said that Israel has recently started recent contacts with Bangladesh to establish diplomatic relations.
Israeli Radio said on Sunday, quoting the paper, that the deputy director general of the Israeli Foreign Ministry for political affairs, Yitzhak Schilf, has recently held a meeting with the foreign minister of Bangladesh and handed him a message from Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy.
The radio added that Schilf asked the Bangladeshi minister to establish economic relations between his country and Israel in the first phase, in parallel with the current relations with Indonesia.
Israel is giving great importance to establishing relations with Bangladesh, which is the second-largest Islamic country in the world, after Indonesia.
